Appointment System 

 

Our appointment system is mainly bookable on the day for routine Gp appointments and urgent care. Nurse minor illness are available on the day and a few days in advance. Some Gp appointments are available in advance as well as telephone appointments.


Other nurse clinics are bookbale in advance from chronic disease management to blood test to vaccinations and a whole lot more.

 

Staff do their best to guide patients to the most appropriate appointment, by asking questions about the nature of your problem. The staff are following the Partners instructions, please support them.The Doctors have advised too on when its best to see the same Doctor wherever possible and when its less important to do so.

For example, if a Gp has sent you for a test, it is always better to wait to see or talk to the same Doctor about that result, if it is indicated that they wish to discuss it with you. 

 

Appointments can be booked in person, on line or by phone.  There is a limited capacity for on line booking for appointments. 

 

We release appointments at 8.30 am and again at 11am.

 

 

The early morning and late clinics (for those who find it difficult to come in during normal surgery hours) are still be pre-bookable. All of the Partners undertake these clinics.

Doctors' appointments are for a maximum of 10 minutes duration. To ensure the doctor can give you adequate medical care/advice, please only present with one problem at your appointment. 

 

If you cannot keep an appointment, please inform the reception team or use the cancellation option on our telephone system, we will then be able to offer it to another patient. You can call right up to the last moment and leave a message on our cancellation line.

 

We will continue to offer a broad range of routine appointments with nurses and health care assistants, from early morning to late clinics. We also offer clinics such as Blood Pressure, Asthma, Diabetes and Family Planning. You can still book up a few weeks in advance and there will remain a variety of appointments that can be booked on line if this is more convenient for you.

 

 

Booked Telephone Consultations with a Doctor or Nurse

 

We also offer pre-booked times to speak on the telephone to your Doctor or Nurse at the practice. The procedure for making an appointment is the same, only the consultation will be by telephone. If a patient does not require a face to face consultation, the reception team can book a telephone consultation with a clinical member of the team. The doctor or nurse will ring you back at an agreed time. These are for non complex problems and for one problem only please.

Duty Doctor Appointments

 

We will run emergency clinics each day available for those patients that have a medically urgent problem. The doctors have given careful consideration to what is a medically urgent and are happy to provide this service to those patients needing urgent medical care. The reception staff may ask for some details of the urgent medical problem and will follow the doctors' instructions in booking these slots. Patients may decline to give information, in which case our receptionists will take contact details and the emergency doctor will phone back the patient in order to assess the emergency.

 

 

Minor Illness Clinics

 

Our nurses run a minor illness clinic each day, where patients can be seen for a variety of minor ailments. The list is long, and our nurses can either prescribe or arrange for a prescription if required at the time of your appointment. Examples of the type of minor illness seen are:- impetigo, tonsillitis, allergies and acne - and lots in between! We also see minor injuries.  Again the receptionists have been trained to ask for details so they can guide you to the right clinician for your problem..

 

 

Dealing With Telephone Calls

 

Usually we aim to answer promptly, but in the mornings (and especially on Monday) the phone can be very busy. To get a better service, please avoid telephoning for routine matters such as general advice or test results until after 11:30am. If your Doctor is not available to speak to you on the telephone, you will be advised when he/she is able to deal with your call or you will be offered an alternative arrangement. Unless it is an emergency, the Doctor will not be interrupted during surgery hours.

 

We are improving access to appointments


From 01 October, GP and nurse appointments are now available during the evening and at the weekend for people across Coastal West Sussex.


This means that urgent appointments are available up to 8pm during the week, and during clinics on a Saturday and Sunday.


This aims to improve access to GP appointments and help local people to get the help and support they need.

The service is run by Innovations in Primary Care (IPC), a not-for-profit company owned by local GP practices.


The appointments will be available at local GP access hubs, run from GP surgeries, and they will be both routine and urgent appointments with a doctor, nurse or healthcare professional.


The teams will see new illnesses when you urgently need to see a health professional, and offer planned appointments such as family planning and smear tests that can be hard to arrange whilst at work or when you are caring for family or a loved one.


IPC has been running the MIAMI clinics in Adur and Worthing for the last three years, which has offered a very similar service, offering help for ‘Minor Injury Assessment & Minor Illnesses’.


These clinics have been successful and helped local people to access the help they need outside of normal opening times.


We hope that this roll out of the hubs across the whole of Coastal West Sussex will mean that all patients registered with a GP practice in our area can benefit.


You book into the GP access hubs via your normal GP practice, and you may be offered an appointment at one of the hubs at the weekend if you call NHS 111 for urgent health advice and support.


The hubs may be at your GP practice or they may be at a neighbouring GP practice locally in the community around you.


The teams will have access to your medical records with your consent, and any care they provide will be added to your notes so your GP practice can continue any ongoing care.


Patients can book into these appointments by calling your registered GP practice in the normal way, and they will be able to access the booking system and make sure you receive the help and support you need.


 

Mobile Telephones

 

Mobile telephones can be a nuisance to others using the surgery. We ask that you turn off mobile telephones before entering the building.

 

Smoking

 

Smoking is not permitted in any part of the grounds or building.
